Seventh Winner for Brutal - Heinous Salutes at Sandown

Mark Smith - Saturday May 25

Newgate Farm's Brutal put his name in the mix for the number of individual winners for a first-season sire when Heinous opened her winning account with a dominant performance in the Sportsbet Nobody Does It Easier Hcp (1000m) at Sandown-Hillside on Saturday.

Well-seasoned with four previous starts, Heinous was coming off placings at Cranborne and Pakenham.

Ridden by Luke Currie for Jason Warren, Heinous stalked the early speed before displaying an impressive turn of foot to defeat the Yes Yes Yes filly Flattered by two and a quarter lengths with the Zoustar filly She's Got Pizzazz back in third.

“I felt we needed to wait for the right time to put (blinkers) back on,” Warren said.

“Joe Herbert (assistant trainer) and I discussed giving her a couple of runs to furnish her before we went for the blinkers. We eyed this race off because it is for fillies only, and with the big track, it is ideal for her to balance up and finish off.

“We have always really liked this filly. We thought we might get her to a Magic Millions early on, but she felt her shins after a good run in Sydney, so we put her away.

“I’m sure there are good races in store for her.  We hold her in high regard and will let the dust settle, but I think we can aim higher than this.”

Bred by Gooree Park Stud, Heinous was a $60,000 purchase for her trainer from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the second winner from as many to race for the Exceed And Excel mare Nais Ko, a half-sister to Gooree Stud's Group 1 BRC BTC Cup winner Your Sond (Fastnet Rock).

Heinous a $60,000 Magic Millions yearling

China Horse Club/Newgate/Go Bloodstock/Trilogy had the final say at $400,000 for Nais Ko's Extreme Choice colt at the 2024 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After missing in 2022, Nais Ko revisited Extreme Choice last spring.

Doncaster Mile winner Brutal joins Tassort and Zousain on seven winners, two behind the leader, Too Darn Hot (GB).

The son of O'Reilly looks excellent value at $16,500 at Newgate Farm for the forthcoming season.
