One To Watch - Murwillumbah

Mark Smith - Friday May 24

Matthew Dunn took the wraps of the promising Tassort filly Shamadan, who will likely head to town soon following a dominant performance on debut over 1010m at Murwillumbah on Friday.

Ridden by Ben Looker, Shamadan travelled sweetly behind the leader, Spicy Duck and saved ground when that gelding headed to the outside fence on straightening.

The daughter of Tassort revelled in the bottomless track to draw away three and a half lengths clear of the favoured Better Than Ready filly Petticoat, with the winner’s stablemate Calvary (Hellbent) one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Consigned by Miranda Park to the 2023 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling sale, Shamadan failed to make her modest $30,000 reserve.

Shamadan was passed in short of her $30,000 reserve at Adelaide Magic Millions

She is the fourth winner from as many to race for the Snitzel mare Vienna Watz.

A winner at Canterbury from seven starts, Vienna Waltz was a $10,000 Inglis Digital purchase for Morning Rise Stud.

Moloney Racing bought a sister to Shamadan for $100,000 from the Miranda Park draft at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

A daughter of the Group III STC Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Burning Sands, Vienna Waltz has a weanling filly by Acrobat and was not covered last year.

Shamardan is the seventh winner for Newgate Farm’s Tassort. He joins Zousain on that mark as they chase Too Darn Hot (GB) who has nine and leads the first crop financial standings from Tassort, Pierata, Royal Meeting, and Alabama Express.
