Third Winner for D'Argento - Due Calzini Opens Account

Mark Smith - Friday May 24

Due Calzini took on his elders to break his maiden at start four in the Mulwaree Council Maiden Hcp (1500m) at Goulburn on Friday and ring up the third winner from six starters for So You Think’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner D'Argento.

Ridden by Jean Van Overmeire for Danielle Seib, Due Calzini came with a barnstorming finish from near the tail of the field to defeat the $580,000 3-year-old Pierro gelding Brazil by two lengths with the 3-year-old Adelaide filly Scarli Japali a length back in third.

Due Calzini has had a wrap on him since defeating Switzerland in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm in January.

Due Calzini a $60,000 Magic Millions yearling

He had his first start in Brisbane when third as an odds-on favourite at Doomben and pulled up with the thumps. Off the scene for nearly two months, he failed at Newcastle and was given another couple of months to mature, then finished second at Wagga on May 2.

Bred by Bowness Stud and offered in their draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Due Calzini was a $60,000 purchase for his trainer.

He is the second winner from as many to race for the winning More Than Ready mare Terminally Pretty.

A daughter of the American stakes-winner and Grade 1-placed Moon de French (Malibu Moon), Terminally Pretty has a yearling brother to Due Calzini, who was passed in short of his $60,000 reserve at the Inglis Classic.

Not served in 2022, Terminally Pretty revisited D'Argento last spring.

Bowness Stud has set the fee for D'Argento at $16,500 for the forthcoming season.
