Sweet Ride New for Widden

Media Release - Monday May 20

Widden Stud are pleased to announce another addition to our NSW roster with the talented Deep Field sprinter Sweet Ride retiring to take his place at stud this spring.

Sweet Ride is a new addition for Widden NSW.

Bred and raced by the Vieira family as was Trapeze Artist, Sweet Ride was a fast and precious juvenile, winning twice as a two-year-old. He was successful on debut in January at Rosehill, where he accounted for a field that contained subsequent Group I winner Madame Pommery, he also won the Black Opal Preview prior to running second in the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes to earn his place in the Golden Slipper.

Training on at three for the Annabel Neasham stable, he won the Group III ATC San Domenico Stakes as did leading sires Testa Rossa and General Nediym with more recent winners of the race including our own exciting young sire Anders.

He was also placed in the Group II Run to the Rose behind multiple Group I winner In Secret and again in the Group II Roman Consul behind Best of Bordeaux and retires as a stakes performer at two, three and four with earnings just shy of $570,000.

“I am excited to have another stallion standing at Widden, Sweet Ride was an exceptionally fast horse and performed at stakes level his entire career. I have earmarked 30 mares for him already, which include two sisters to Champion Sprinter Trapeze Artist, so he will be given every chance,” said Bert Vieira.

“It’s now evident that Northern Meteor is a ‘breed shaper’, and it’s a sire line that we have had tremendous success with, to add another speed stallion from this line with the support from Bert and Gai gives him the best possible chance to become another success story for Northern Meteor and Widden,” said Matthew Comerford

Sweet Ride stands at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST
