Third Aussie Winner for Blue Point

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 13

Darley shuttler Blue Point (IRE) is yet to replicate his Northern Hemisphere success in Australia, but he is on the Darley Victoria roster again for this spring and he did post an impressive debut winner at Mornington on Monday.

Trained by David Brideoake & Matt Jenkins, Interest Point had market support to suggest he could run a nice race in the 1000m maiden, but he went a bit better than that opening up to win by nearly three lengths for Beau Mertens.

“He lived up to his trials which was great,” said David Brideoake, who bred Interest Poijnt and retains a share in his ownership.

“He’s a pretty decent colt, I’ll have a look in the calendar and see what’s on in three weeks for him.”

Interest Point is a half-brother to Group II MRC Sandown Guineas winner Allibor and is the sixth winner from six to race from imported stakes-winner Libor Lady (USA).

She has a yearling colt to follow by Blue Point and was covered last spring by Doubtland after a year off.

Interest Point is the third Australian winner from Blue Point, who with 29 runners here has had more runners than any other first season sire.

A champion sprinter by Shamardal, Blue Point is priced again this spring at $44,000.
