A $600,000 Magic Millions Weanling purchase from Segenhoe Stud for Rosemont Stud/Bahen Bloodstock, Fastnet Rock gelding Mariota scored by three-quarters of a length at his first run in the 1500m maiden.

Trained by Matt Laurie and ridden by Jamie Mott, he was sent out favourite and repaid connections for their patience.

“It’s been a long time coming as he’s had a few issues to overcome, an eye issue actually which put him out for a while and he’s probably lucky to be here,” revealed Matt Laurie.

“We had to geld him, he was a bit of a painful colt, so it’s good to get him to a race. He responded well under pressure and will be better for the outing. I think he will be a nice horse when he gets out over ground.”

Mariota is the first foal of multiple Group winning mare Oregon‘s Day, a half-sister to Group II winner Talent Show and stakes-winner Oregon Spirit from Group III winner Oregon Seal.

Oregon’s Day was also offered at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale where she sold for $1million to Mitchell Bloodstock (FBAA)/Segenhoe Stud.

Segenhoe sold an I Am Invincible yearling filly from her at Inglis Easter this year for $525,000 to Toking / Stephen Gray Racing / Wattle Bloodstock and she is in foal to Snitzel after missing the previous year.
