Tom Magnier Pays $3.4million for She’s Extreme

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 9

A Group I winner of the ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m) at two and then a Group I VRC Oaks (2500m) winner at three, She’s Extreme was extremely good and that’s why she sparked a protracted bidding duel at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale before Tom Magnier won the day with a final bid of $3.4million.

Consigned by Newgate Farm, who stand her sire Extreme Choice, She’s Extreme was trained by Anthony Cummings, who purchased her as a yearling at Inglis Easter for $275,000 from the Willow Park draft. She was initially a pinhook success story having bred bred by Aquis and sold as a weanling through Inglis Digital in June 2020 for a modest $32,500.

She raced for a group of stable clients including Robert Crabtree of Dorrington Farm in whose colours she ran.

“It wasn’t just about the money, she’s a beautiful animal and we’ve loved our time with her,” said Robert Crabtree.

“She was a champion and congratulations to Coolmore. They bought Mizzy, a mare we bred and sold for $2.2million and now this one for $3.4million, so I wish them all the luck in the world.”

Coolmore’s Tom Moore spoke to Jemma Cutting after the sale.

“She was a great race filly and trained on to win an Oaks, so she had everything we look for in a mare,” Moore said.

“We bought her for a partnership that includes some of our international clients that are also involved with stallions like Shinzo, so we’ll go home and assess which stallions would suit her, but horses like Wootton Bassett and Home Affairs would be high on the list.”
