One to Watch – Kyneton

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 9

We saw another promising three year-old filly by The Autumn Sun salute on debut at Kyneton on Thursday and she is a half-sister to enigmatic dual Group I winner Nettoyer.

Changing Colours comes from last to first to win at Kyneton - image Brett Holburt / Racing Photos

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Damian Lane, Changing Colours had a couple of unremarkable trials in Sydney last year and was making her debut in the 1454m maiden, but she must have been showing a lot more behind the scenes this year with punters sending her out favourite.

Dragged back to last from a wide gate, she did not appreciate being restrained and raced a bit fiercely before being allowed to stride forward out wide and she continued to make a long searching run that carried her to a half length win.

Bred by Bromfield Park’s Bill Pearce, Changing Colours sold for $400,000 at Magic Millions in the Vinery Stud draft with her breeder retaining a share in the half-sister to $2.5million earner Nettoyer, who won both the Group I ATC Doncaster and Queen of the Turf Stakes.

She is the sixth winner from well related Dehere (USA) mare Cleanup, who was bought by Bromfield Park for $260,000 at the 2020 Inglis Chairman’s Sale when in foal to the Autumn sun with Changing Colours the result of the mating.

Cleanup was subsequently sent to the UK for a mating with Frankel and returned to Australia last year and produced a colt by the champion Juddmonte sire.

The Autumn Sun is a sire on fire with six winners in the past week!
