Someday Back From The Brink

Mark Smith - Saturday December 30

Just over four years since his previous stakes win, 9yo gelding Someday scored a fighting victory in Saturday's $300,000 Listed Bernborough Hcp (1600m) at Doomben.

The son of Falvelon made it two Bernboroughs in a row for trainer Desleigh Forster after the ill-fated Cylinder Beach who was euthanised when he was injured in the O'Shea Stakes in June.

The winner of two stakes races in 2013 when trained by Kelso Wood, the injury-plagued Someday defeated Ruettiger (Duporth) by one and a half-lengths with Hopfgarten (Mossman) a length and a quarter back in third. (photo Brisbane Race Club)

"We had a barbecue last Saturday for Christmas and the staff gave me a bracelet made from Cylinder Beach's tail. I haven't taken it off and I haven't stopped training winners," Forster said.

"I have had five runners for three winners and two minor placings."

Forster was non-too complimentary on how Someday has been ridden in his recent starts and needed some quick talking to connections who were considering retiring the veteran after his last start.

"The owners were talking about retiring him but I never lost confidence in him. I had him in the Villiers in Sydney and decided to wait for this race," Forster said.

"I told Michael (Walker) not to worry about his form as he has had no luck."

The 9yo gelding takes his overall record to 9 wins, 6 seconds and 2 third from 37 starts for earnings of $643,950.

Someday is the first and only foal of the talented racemare Miss Ivy who died in June 2010. One the track she won four and placed in six of her 24 starts including a third-place finish in the Group II Tea Rose Stakes.

A daughter of Gold Brose, Miss Ivy was out of the Last Tycoon (USA) mare Midori Splice herself a daughter of the Magic Millions 2yo Classic heroine Malibu Magic (Prego).

This is the prolific family of the top-class filly Shaybisc.

Glenlogan Park Stud's stalwart Falvelon has just completed his 15th season at stud.

The son Alannon has just one lot catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
