Pierro Filly Wins Listed Adelaide Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 4

The Lindsay Park racing team have always had a good opinion of Poifect and it was justified at Morphettville on Saturday when she strolled to a commanding win in the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas (1600m).

Ridden a perfect race by Mick Dee, Poifect swept to the lead after jumping and opened up to win by nearly three lengths taking her overall record to three wins and two placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $150,000.

“She only ran last Thursday at Flemington on Anzac Day, so it’s pretty much a week back-up and a trip to Adelaide and she’s come here and been able to do that,” said Dee, who also rode her when she won at Flemington.

“It’s really quite impressive and I’m really looking forward to her going forward from here… she’s very tough, she tries hard.”

Poifect was a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Lindsay Park Racing and was foaled and raised at Coolmore. She is the best of four winners from winning Flying Spur mare Without Exception, a sibling to Group III winner Krupt and stakes-winner Anevay tracing back to legendary matriarch Fanfreluche via the Grand Luxe branch of the family.

Without Exception had a yearling filly by So You Think sell for $120,000 at Inglis Easter this year to Amanda Turner Racing and produced a colt by Acrobat last spring before being covered by Yes Yes Yes.

Poifect was not the only nice three year-old by Pierro to win for the Lindsay Park training team on Saturday with Aztec State saluting at Caulfield over 2000m.

Co -trainer Ben Hayes indicated the $1 million Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1 may be an option for Aztec State.

"He was definitely auditioning today and I think he passed," Hayes, who trains in partnership with brothers Will and JD, said.

"He probably ran 2400 metres today, going so wide.

"He's a progressive horse and I think 2400 should be no problems."

A homebred for Yulong, Aztec State is the first winner for Arizona Belle (IRE), an unraced half-sister by Redoute’s Choice to Melbourne Cup and Australian Cup winner Fiorente, which probably goes a fair way to explaining the obvious stamina he is showing.

Poifect is the 38th stakes-winner for Pierro, who stands at a fee of $55,000 this spring.
