A Pair of Exciting Deep Field Three-Year-Olds Kick Starts Anzac Day

Mark Smith - Thursday April 25

A fantastic start to Anzac Day for Newgate Farm’s pensioned Deep Fied, with winners at Randwick and Flemington with a pair of 3-year-olds that promise better days to come.

The Emma-Lee and David Browne-trained filly Pondalowie is beginning to live up to the high expectations of connections.

Ridden by Billy Egan, the daughter of Deep Field led the field in The Les Carlyon (1100m) at a solid clip down the straight. Pondalowie had plenty to offer when asked for an effort to defeat the favourite Hearcomesthestar (Zoustar) by two lengths, with Links (Spieth) back in third.

It was the second win from four starts for Pondalowie, who was a $90,000 pinhook for Prima Park/Bevan Smith Bloodstock at the National Weanling Sale before selling to Sparta Racing for $150,000 when consigned by Prima Park to the 2022 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Fenrigg Farm will offer a half-sister to Pondalowie from the first crop of Tiger Of Malay to next months 2024 Australian Weanling Sale (lot 431).

Bred by Alan Bell, Pondalowie is the third winner from as many to race out of the talented Red Element mare Glorious Red, who won five of her 21 starts.

Glorious Red revisited Tiger Of Malay last spring.

The David Pfieffer-trained Call Me Gorgeous went one better than his debut second when dominating The Passchendaele Maiden Plate (1100m) at Randwick-Kensington.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller,  Call Me Gorgeous settled outside of the leader Pombia and, under minimal urging, strode clear to defeat the Rubick x Catkins filly Rubikins by two and a half lengths with the Written Tycoon filly Pombia three lengths back in third.

Bred by Duncan Grimley and Dale Corrigan, Call Me Gorgeous is a three-time veteran of the sales ring.

A $90,000 Magic Millions weanling, $120,000 Inglis Premier yearling,  Call Me Gorgeous was the second top-priced lot at the 2022 Inglis Ready2Race Sale when Anton Koolman Bloodstock had the final at $550,000 for the Nolen Racing consigned colt.

A half-brother to stakes-placed Riduna (Fastnet Rock), Call Me Gorgeous is the third winner from four to race for the High Chaparral (IRE) mare Alderney, a sister to Listed winner Ballet Suite and half to Listed Talindert Stakes winner Casquets.

Call Me Gorgeous a $550,000 purchase at the 2022 Inglis Ready2Race Sale

Triple Crown Syndications purchased a Pierata half-brother to Call Me Gorgeous from the Twin Hills Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Alderney missed to Microphone last spring after foaling a St Mark's Basilica (FR) colt.
