$80,000 Tassort Colt Tops Inglis Gold

Media Release - Sunday April 21

A Tassort colt from the Blue Gum Farm draft topped today’s Gold Yearling Sale at Oaklands, selling to Trilogy Racing for $80,000.

The colt was offered on behalf of Max Porlezza’s Braebrook Thoroughbreds, who was “ecstatic’’ with the outcome achieved by the colt, who is related to his family's champion filly Streama.

$80,000 Tassort colt from Viascon.

“It was more than we were ever expecting, I really can’t believe how well he’s sold, it’s fantastic,’’ Porlezza said.

“We thought he was a nice colt and I’ve always thought you want to have the nicer colts in those kind of sales where he was going to stand out and while you never know how much they’re going to stand out, it was just a great result, more than we ever expected.’’

The result helped Blue Gum end the sale as leading vendor, selling all eight of their offerings.

Trilogy’s Sean Dingwall described the colt as “a real 2YO type’’.

“[Trilogy’s] Jason [Stenning] was keen to buy a 2YO type and this colt is certainly that, he’ll go to the breakers basically immediately and get into the system and hopefully be up and running early,’’ Dingwall said.

“The stallion is really doing the job, they lucked on the right leg with Manaal winning the [Inglis] Sires a fortnight ago and having a fee increase to be announced this week, it just made sense.’’

Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price was pleased to see increases in the average and median today.

“We were pleased with the number of buyers who engaged with the sale given the relatively small catalogue,” Price said.

“The clearance rate was solid in the context of the current market and a number of private sales are still being negotiated, while the median is almost double the $8,000 figure of 12 months ago.

“It’s very much a case of demand not matching supply in terms of the horses occupying the lower part of the market. Yearlings that met the criteria of traders and trainers were well found and those who didn’t struggled.

“While we are conscious that this sale provides breeders and vendors an important market for the sale of stock, the size of the catalogue was disappointing and we will be evaluating the viability of this sale when considering plans for next year.’’
