First Winner for Scintillo

Mark Smith - Sunday December 24

With a winner from his first runner, Glen Eden Stud resident Scintillo (GB) looks sure to attract more interest from breeders.

The Marc Quinn-trained filly Nashian fought off the Sizzling filly Sizzleonthebridge in a 1000 metres maiden for two-year-olds at Taree on Sunday to credit Scintillo (GB) with his first winner.

Technically she is from the second crop of Scintillo (GB) who had four named foals in his first crop that are yet to reach the track.

Quinn believes the winner has a future.

"We've always had an opinion of her,' he told Sky Channel.

"She's done a good job, this is her first preparation.

"We've had a few muscle problems with her. I got some help from Peter Snowden with ideas on feed and husbandry practices. We have changed a few things around and she hasn't looked back.

"She trialled well on the Beaumont track behind the horse that just ran second to her. Josh Adams was adamant she had her covered and we took a bit of confidence in that today.

"Her owners are new to the stable, Corey and Rachel (Dunn). They just rang me out of the blue and gave me the horse to train so it's a great way to start.

"She is out of a Fastnet Rock mare by an English horse called Scintillo and this is his first runner.

"Corey bought the mare in foal to him and we've got a nice Bianconi filly and she is in foal to Adelaide (IRE) so we look forward to some good times with Corey."

Nashian is the first foal of the unraced Fastnet Rock mare Sakhra who is a granddaughter of the supremely talented but headstrong Zabeel mare Nahayan who placed in the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas, Group 1 New Zealand Derby and Group 1 STC Ranvet Stakes without claiming a stakes victory.

Scintillo won the Group 1 Gran Criterium in Milan and was crowned Champion 2YO colt in Italy in 2007.

At four he won the Group II Grand Prix de Chantilly and the Group III Winter Derby.

He was purchased by Victorian Len Lucas to be aimed at the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Sent to Robbie Griffiths, Scintillo failed to flatter in two starts before succumbing to injury.

Scintillo (GB) is a son of Darley Stud's recently deceased champion Fantastic Light (USA) out of the Thatching mare Danseuse Du Soir who numbered victories in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1,000 Guineas) and Group 1 Prix de la Foret.

Scintillo (GB) (pictured ) was transferred to Glen Eden Stud this year where he stood for an advertised fee of $3,300.
