Kintyre Gets a Well Deserved Stakes Win

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 20

A half-brother to Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Fireburn, Hallowed Crown gelding Kintyre has been threatening to win a stakes race for some time and got the job done at Randwick on Saturday taking out the $250,000 Group III ATC Frank Packer Plate (2000m), but probably not in the way connections might have liked.

Never further back than fourth in four previous runs this year, the Gary Portelli trained Kintyre was overdue for a win and after squeezing into a narrow gap on the fence for Jamie Kah it looked as though he was going to end up with another honourable placing when he got to the finishing line a whisker behind Gold Bullion.

Stewards took an interest and after quick deliberation, Kintyre was awarded the win on protest with Gold Bullion just laying in enough to inconvenience Kintyre when it counted.

Bred by Laurel Oak Bloodstock in partnership with Goodwood Farm and retained to race, Kintyre runs for a very happy group of owners and has the overall record of three wins and seven placings from 20 starts with prizemoney topping $500,000.

He is the second foal and second stakes-winner for Mull Over, a winning half-sister by So You Think to stakes-winner Galizani from the family of Group I AJC Flight Stakes winner Danarani.

Purchased by Laurel Oak from the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for just $22,000, Mull Over has a yearling colt by Pierata that was offered by Goodwood Farm at Inglis Easter and purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock for $460,000.

She appears to now be in foal to Fireburn’s sire Rebel Dane after missing to him in 2022.

Kintyre is the seventh SW for Hallowed Crown, click for more info and a Hypo mating.

Kintyre is the seventh stakes-winner for Twin Hills Stud’s Hallowed Crown, who nearly made it a race to race stakes double with his sprinting son Vilana finishing second in the Group II ATC Hall Mark Stakes.
