Too Darn Hot Colt Perspiration in a Class of his Own in Mornington Sires

Mark Smith - Saturday April 20

After finishing second at his first two starts at Randwick and Caulfield, Perspiration made short work of six opponents in Saturday’s $150,000 Asset Painting Services Mornington Sires (1100m) to ring up the eighth winner from the first crop of Too Darn Hot (GB).

Ridden by Ethan Brown for Ciaron Maher, Perspiration was given time to find his feet but was flushed out with 600m to run. Rounding the field four and five wide, Perspiration kept up a solid gallop to defeat the Frosted (USA) colt Snack Bar by two and a half lengths, with the Showtime colt Just For Show back in third.

Perspiration was defeated by two likely types in Roselyn's Star when on debut at Randwick and the unbeaten Feroce at Caulfield.

“An excellent ride by Ethan, who knows this track well, being a hometown boy,” stable representative Jack Turnbull said.

“He got flushed midway through the race but was too strong. Joe and Ciaron were bullish on him up north and Too Darn Hot is kicking into gear.

“It’s great to win in these colours, and I’m sure this horse has a bright future.

‘We will be keeping the door open for Brisbane, but possibly he will have a let-up and get ready for the spring.”

A $270,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Group 1 Bloodstock from the Rosari Farm draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Perspiration is a half-brother to The Reluctant Star (Epaulette), who was sold to Hong Kong after winning his first two races at Geelong and Flemington.

Perspiration is out of the 5-time winning Casino Prince mare Latitude.

A $155,000 buy at the 2019 National Broodmare Sale, Latitude is a half-sister to Listed stakes-winner Sugar Boom and stakes-placed Intencion (Commands).

Latitude has not had a foal since Perspiration and revisited Too Darn Hot (GB) last spring.

A triple Group 1 winning son of Dubawi, Too Darn Hot extends his lead for number of first crop winners to two from Alabama Express.
