Pierata Filly Carravilla Makes Winning Debut at Doomben

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 17

Despite being easy in betting, Carravilla made a winning debut over 1100m at Doomben on Wednesday in the manner of a promising filly and rang up the fifth first-crop winner for Pierata.

Ridden by Samantha Collett for Chris Munce, Carravilla enjoyed the run of the race behind the leaders La Cometa and Tessatori. Collaring that pair at the 200m, the daughter of Pierata broke clear to defeat the fast-finishing Star Witness debutant Provance by one and a quarter lengths, with the La Roca first-starter La Cometa hanging on for third.

The favourite Sole Pursuit was scratched at the barrier when refusing to load.

Bred by Laurel Oak Bloodstock, Goodwood Farm, Rhiannon Bloodstock, and D & C Jeffery, Carravilla was a $130,000 purchase for her trainer from the Goodwood Farm draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
