New Juvenile Stakes-Winner for Headwater

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 13

The Listed SAJC Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday produced a new stakes-winner Vinery Stud’s value sire Headwater with promising filly Pure Aqua casting off maiden status with a Black Type victory.

Trained by Richard and Chantelle Jolly, Pure Aqua was fifth on debut in a stakes race in February and then second in her next start in March, so has taken improvement from each race to date.

She powered to the line for Jake Toeroek to score by more than a length and has banked over $90,000 in her first three starts.

Jake Toerek took responsibility for defeat at her first two runs and has a good opinion of the filly going forward.

“I gave her a couple of very ordinary efforts, but today it all worked out and we lobbed on the back of the favourite,” said Toerek.

“She still doesn’t know how to bridle up and travel into the race properly, but when you do ask her she is very strong to the line and there is more improvement to come.”

Purchased privately, Pure Aqua runs in the same colours as stakes-winning Headwater mare Aitch Two Oh, who is also trained by Richard and Chantelle Jolly and won this same race two years ago before going to achieve multiple stakes wins.

Pure Aqua as a weanling.

Passed in at the Inglis Weanling Sale, Pure Aqua carries the Twin Hills Stud brand and was foaled and raised at the Cootamundra farm for her breeder Hall of Fame Bloodstock.

She is the second winner from placed Choisir mare Jester Jewel, a full sister to stakes-winner Rockshaft tracing in direct tail female line to legendary blue hen Dark Jewel, who produced five stakes-winners, three of them G1 winners - Baguette, Cabochon and Heirloom.

Jester Jewel produced a colt by Nicconi last spring and is now in foal to Cosmic Force.

Pure Aqua is the seventh stakes-winner for Headwater.
