More Success for Record Priced Al Maher

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 17
The Bob and Sandra Peters owned Silverstream claimed another feature race win at Ascot on Perth on Saturday when claiming the Group III WATC AJ Scahill Stakes.

The six year-old Al Maher mare is in career best form and bounced back from an unplaced run in the Group I WATC Railway Stakes where she drew the outside in the field of 16.

Prepared by Adam Durrant, she charged home from the tail of the field to win the 1400 metre sprint by a neck.

Silverstream as a yearlingOwner Bob Peters told The West Australian that Silverstream could continue her campaign in the Group III La Trice Classic (1800m) on January 1.

"We'll see how she pulls up," Peters said.

"This will probably be her last year of racing. Obviously he's getting on a bit now.

"I thought she tightened right up after the Railway. She looked a lot slimmer and fitter today and she's proven she was in good nick."

Purchased for $320,000 by Belmont Bloodstock from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Silverstream is the most expensive yearling for her sire ever sold but she has proved her worth with a record of nine wins and five placings from 26 starts with earnings in excess of $700,000.

Al MaherA full sister to Group III AJC Adrian Knox Stakes winner Speedy Natalie, Silverstream was co-bred by Arthur Mitchell and foaled and raised at Yarraman. She is one of seven winners from stakes-winning Brocco (USA) mare Speedy Bell, who is also the dam of stakes-winner Calanda.

Speedy Bell died last year and her final foal, a colt by I Am Invincible, made $320,000 to the bid of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.at Inglis Easter this year.

Aquis Farm's Al Maher has enjoyed a hot stakes run in recent months with the likes of Monsieur Gustave and Money Maher adding to the success of Silverstream.

Al Maher has six entries for Inglis Classic.
