One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 28

One of the most potent nicks in the world has been with Fastnet Rock over Galileo mares and we saw it on Saturday in the shape of Group I winner Via Sistina (IRE) and again at Hawkesbury on Thursday in a promising maiden winner from the Ciaron Maher stable.

Three year-old gelding Wizards was having his second race start in the 1500m maiden and he hit the line full of running for Tyler Schiller to win by a length with the race favourite Jawharat Dubai (half-sister by Lonhro to Pride of Dubai) in third place.

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from Vinery Stud, Wizards is the third winner from winning Galileo mare Dreams and Wishes, a full sister to stakes-winner Personify, the dam of Fastnet Rock’s Group I VRC Oaks winner Personal.

Wizards was a $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Given Wizards is a brother-in-blood to Personal it will be no surprise to see him stepped up in trip with longer races in mind.

Dreams and Wishes is a daughter of Group III winning blue hen Procrastinate, so is also a sibling to Group I winner Laisserfaire, Group III winner A Time for Julia and stakes-winners Time Thief and Foreplay.

Dreams and Wishes was back at Coolmore last spring to visit Starspangledbanner.

For the record the stats on that Fastnet Rock x Galileo nick read 108 winners from 152 runners (70% winner to runner) and 29 stakes-winners which is 19% SW to runner and 10 of those SW’s are G1 winners.
