Inglis Easter Best of the Best - Can They Make a Million?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 27

The Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale is getting very close now and this time next week inspections will be underway at the Riverside Stables complex ahead of the sale on April 7 and 8 and that means yearling images are flooding in and for those keen for a sneak peek at some of the stars let’s take a look.

She’s the most talked about yearling in Australia this year and as the first foal of Winx by Golden Slipper winner Pierro, this girl will command worldwide interest.

Lot 391

She is consigned by Coolmore and will be offered as Lot 391.

Winx as a yearling, she was also sold by Coolmore for $230,000.

Interestingly Coolmore also sold her mother as a yearling on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds back at the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and she fetched $230,000 when bought by Magic Bloodstock. Her yearling picture is above for comparison.

Another superstar on pedigree in the Coolmore draft is Lot 329, a Wootton Bassett (GB) colt from Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight, who was bought as a broodmare by Coolmore for $4.2million in 2020 at MM National.

Lot 329

He is the second foal of the triple Group I winning daughter of Zoustar and her first foal, a colt by Justify (USA) sold for $1.4million at Magic Millions last year.

Widden Stud have had some massive sales through selling siblings to Sunlight and will offer another full brother to the champion filly by Zoustar from Solar Charged as Lot 304.

Lot 304

Solar Charged has had eight foals to race for seven winners with Group III winner Sisstar and stakes-placed Sheikha and Dio among those winners in addition to Sunlight.

Widden Stud / Qatar Bloodstock purchased Solar Charged from the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2014 for $650,000 after she had produced two foals for her previous owner and her first foal for them, a filly by Sebring sold at Inglis Easter for $350,000 in 2016 followed by Sunlight, who sold for $300,000 at Magic Millions the next year.

Sunlight as a yearling, Widden sold her for $300,000.

When Sunlight came out and did what she did it upped the ante for Solar Charged and she has proven an absolute goldmine for her owners.

She has produced seven sales yearlings for Widden and partners and they have sold for a combined total of $8.6million!

Also in the Widden draft and destined for plenty of attention is Lot 24, the half-brother by Written Tycoon to dual Group I winner Zougotcha.

Lot 24

Bred on the exact same cross as Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot, he is the sixth foal of stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Fast Talker, who is also the dam of stakes-winners The Actuary and Persuader.

Widden have 10 in their draft by their champion sire Zoustar and they include Lot 295 from Sin Sin Sin, the half-brother to Champion 3YO Colt and Everest winner Yes Yes Yes.

Lot 295

He is also a half-brother to stakes-placed Dee Nine Elle from a phenomenally fast female family packed with SW’s including  dual Group winning sprinter In Her Time.

The family of Group I winner Sunshine in Paris were in hot demand at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year.

Sunshine in Paris sold for $3.9million, her dam Zenaida made $1.4million and her three-quarter sister Macroura sold for $1.5million.

The family crops up at Inglis Easter with Yarraman Park offering the first foal of Macroura, a filly by I Am Invincible as Lot 125.

Lot 121

In the lead up to the Golden Slipper it was all about two colts and one of them was Switzerland and while he might have lost his unbeaten record in that grand final, he had the look of a colt with plenty of growing and furnishing to do with the distinct promise that he will return better at three.

Lot 170

Switzerland made $1.5million at this sale last year for Arrowfield and they will offer the second foal from his dam Ms Bad Behaviour (Can) as Lot 170.

He is another colt by champion sire Snitzel and is very similar in appearance to his brother.
