Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 26

There were six juvenile heat winners at Warwick Farm on Tuesday that included talented Zoustar colt Espionage, who missed a start in last Saturday’s Golden Slipper, but one of the most anticipated triallers of the morning was Roselyn’s Star, however things did not go to plan for the son of Shalaa (IRE).

The John O’Shea trained Roselyn’s Star could not have been more impressive when breaking his maiden at Randwick on March 13 with the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes on Saturday week touted as his target race after that win.

Sent to the trials this morning for a tick over outing, he hit his head after loading in the gates and was subsequently scratched with connections now going to have to move to Plan B.

Things went more smoothly for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Espionage, who was given a good hit out to win his heat against older rivals after being left out of the Slipper field as first emergency. Espionage was asked to find the line in his 1200m heat surging past quality mare Call Di to win by a length and three-quarters.

James Cummings sent out a big group of youngsters with Exosphere filly Night Sky catching they eye with a stylish strong finishing win at her first outing.

Godolphin don’t have many in the stable anymore by Exosphere, who now stands at Oaklands Stud in Queensland, but Night Sky is a full sister to a pretty smart filly in Thermosphere, who won a Group III ATC Magic Night Stakes and a Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes.

Bjorn Baker trained juveniles are usually jump and run at the trials, by Blue Point (IRE) colt Point and Shoot was allowed to find his feet by Rachel King and powered to the line to win his heat by a length and a half at his first trial this preparation.

A $240,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Mill Park for Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock, Point and Shoot was bred in partnership by renowned South Australian breeder Harry Perks, who has kept a share in the colt which might be a tip in itself. He is the second named foal from Watchmespin, a winning Sepoy mare from a family that has delivered plenty of success over the years for Mill Park producing Group I winners Serious Speed and Run Fox Run as well as multiple Group II winner Majestic Music.

Additional winners were: Novara (Epaulette), Obscure (Exceed and Excel) and Embassy (I Am Invincible).
