Debut HK Winner for Brave Smash

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 25

Yarraman Park’s young sire Brave Smash (Jpn) had a stakes-winner at Rosehill on Saturday in Brave Mead and also impressive debut winner at Sha Tin on Sunday when three year-old gelding Divano powered clear to win the opening race on the program.

Trained by Francis Lui, he was easy in the market, but had no trouble defeating older rivals in the 1200m Class Four event with Lyle Hewitson in the saddle.

Divano was a successful pinhook, bought by Jim Carey for $57,500 from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale and then re-offered at Inglis Classic where he made $90,000 to the bid of Ryan & Alexiou Racing / D Raphael.

Bred by Aquis in partnership, Divano is the first winner for Been Scene, a three time winning Bianconi (USA) mare, whose grand-dam is Group III winner Princess Plume.

Divano is the second winner in Hong Kong from just two starters for Brave Smash, who covered 112 mares in his first season for Yarraman Park last year at a fee of $33,000.
