$500,000 Inglis Nursery on Saturday

Media Release - Friday December 15

The $500,000 Inglis Nursery has proven itself a key form race for Australia's leading 2YO events and Tony McEvoy believes he has the arsenal to enjoy success at Randwick on Saturday.

Golden Slipper winner She Will REign won the Inglis Nursery last year Three of the past four winners of the Nursery have gone onto elite 2YO glory, with Golden Slipper winners She Will Reign (2016) and Mossfun (2013), as well as Blue Diamond victor and now stallion Extreme Choice (2015) all claiming the Inglis feature.

The 2017 edition of the race, to be run on Saturday's Inglis Villiers Day, has a field of 14 runners, sold at four different Inglis yearling sales.

McEvoy will have two representatives – Classic Yearling Sale graduate Sanctimonious (Foxwedge) and Logan River (Snitzel), an Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase.

And he's confident they'll both put on a show.

"I bought Sanctimonious off Strawberry Hill, he was a big, powerful but well moving colt," McEvoy said.

"If you were going to knock him as a yearling you'd say he was going to get too big. I thought he'd done most of his growing, and thankfully I was right.

"He was stiff not to win in Melbourne, but we should see a horse with a very good turn of foot on top of the ground."

McEvoy said Logan River was also a big strong colt as a yearling, but thinks he might have a horse that's special.

"He's a cracking colt. Absolute cracking colt," he said.

"He was completely bogged on the heavy track on debut, and I couldn't believe he still ran third.

"You'll see a very smart horse on top of the ground. He's a genuine winning chance."

Two horses in the field, Capitulate (Star Witness) and Sanctimonious (Foxwedge) were sold in the inaugural Gold Riband session of the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling sale. Should either of them win Saturday's race, the vendor and supplier would split a $100,000 bonus for being the first Stakes winner out of the session.

The Inglis Nursery runners represent 13 different sires, with Choisir (2) the only stallion to have multiple runners. Other sires with runners include Snitzel, I Am Invincible, Written Tycoon, Sebring, Foxwedge and Smart Missile.

The race also includes a $50,000 bonus to both the Vendor & Supplier of the winning horse.
