Fastnet Mares on Fire- Let’s Find Them at Inglis Easter! - Nicks that Click

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 19

The win of Zougotcha in the $1million Group I ATC Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill last Saturday was a significant one for her broodmare sire Fastnet Rock as it gave him the kick he needed to dislodge Encosta de Lago from the top of the Australian Broodmare Sires List.

It’s no secret that Fastnet Rock mares have been on fire this season producing 17 individual Australian stakes-winners and one of the stars of that group is Golden Slipper favourite Storm Boy.

If the undefeated  Justify (USA) colt wins this Saturday it will propel Fastnet Rock rapidly towards his first ever title of Champion Australian Broodmare Sire that will sit alongside his earlier titles in 2011/2012 and 2014/2015 as Champion Australian Sire.

Fastnet Rock’s ongoing surge through to the end of the season will be assisted by his main rival Encosta de Lago losing two of his big guns in Alligator Blood and now Fangirl through injury, although he’s had a new G1 winner emerge in Lady Laguna and enigmatic three year-old King’s Gambit does threaten to win a G1 if he can get his head straight.

Flying the flag for Fastnet Rock mares outside of Storm Boy (Justify (USA) and Zougotcha (Zoustar) is Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Joliestar (Zoustar), who trialled nicely at Rosehill on Monday and he also has two other Golden Slipper runners in Bodyguard (I Am Invincible) and Lady of Camelot (Written Tycoon).

The Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale is fast approaching and there are 34 entries from daughters of Fastnet Rock so let’s take a look at them sorted by the sire of the yearling and where there is significant available data we’ve included the nick information for winner to runner and SW to runner.
