Group Goals Ahead for Flying Tassort Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 13

Tassort has another star juvenile on the radar with exciting Anthony and Sam Freedman trained filly Ameena winning as she pleased at Caulfield Heath on Wednesday to make it two easy wins in as many starts.

She was a dazzling four length debut winner at Bendigo last month and was able to replicate that dominance when powering clear to win the 1000m juvenile contest by more than two lengths.

A homebred for Emirates Park as is Tassort’s other star filly Manaal, Ameena is highly regarded by her trainers and they are looking towards Black Type for the unbeaten filly.

"She bounced on the bunny and was very professional, the progression she's made from her first trial here when she blew the start and showed good talent running up behind them to her second trial to her first start, she's just an improver," said Sam Freedman, who elected to run the filly today in preference to the Listed MRC Redoute’s Choice Stakes this Saturday..

"We had her in the Redoute's Choice on Saturday, I'm not thinking that we're going to back her up in three days.

"Maybe the (G3) Thoroughbred Breeders down the straight … then we'll assess her, whether we headed up to Sydney and give some thought to a race like the Percy Sykes (G2).”

Ameena is the first winner for Emaan, a winning half-sister by Harbour Watch (IRE) to the dam of Group III winner Marboosha. She produced another filly by Tassort last spring.

Tassort has had five winners from 14 starters with Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Manaal the best of them.

Tassort had a surge in popularity last spring at Newgate Farm covering 231 mares to be the busiest sire in Australia.
