Street Boss Colt Traffic Warden Claims Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday March 9

Jamie Kah's positive ride from an outside barrier resulted in the striking Street Boss (USA) colt Traffic Warden leading at every call in Saturday’s Group II MSS Security Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Traffic Warden showed a good kick at the 300m to defeat the Per Incanto (USA) colt Rue De Royale by one and three-quarter lengths with the Blue Point (IRE) colt Bosustow a length back in third.

Unfortunate enough to find a good one on debut when second to Storm Boy at Rosehill on December 2, Traffic Warden broke his maiden at Caulfield then placed behind Prost in the Group III Canonbury Stakes at Rosehill. The James Cummings-trained colt prepped for the Sires’ with an honest sixth, beaten two and a half lengths, behind Kuroyanagi in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

A tilt at the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes is on the cards for Traffic Warden.

“We never asked her (Kah) to lead but if the horse were to bounce well than to make the most of it,” stable representative Nacim Delmi said.

“He bounced very quickly, and she got to the front very easily and we were quite happy with that.

“His run in the Blue Diamond was a lot better than what the result says. He was very strong late looking for the 1400m.

“He is a much more sensible mentally. He’s developed into a nice horse since the last time he was here and he has a bright future.

“Credit to Jamie as well. 12 months ago she had terrible luck so it is good to see her ride the winner.”

“When Craig Williams rode the horse in the Blue Diamond he did advise of this race and also so that we could potentially drop him back to 1200 with switching blinkers on and off.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you see him in Sydney in a couple of weeks.”

It was an emotional win for Jamie Kah, who was badly injured when she fell in the race last year.

“A much better result (than last year),” Kah said.

“James said the option was up to me if I wanted to go forward or go back and to make up my mind when I jumped.

“That was the best thing in the end because he jumped too well and I thought ‘beautiful’, so I could slide across and he got there so easily.

“He was entitled to stop late because he did a bit of work but he was so tough. I helped because he’s so tractable, he came back to me and jumped well.

“It makes our job easy when you ride beautiful horses like this from Godolphin.

A homebred for Godolphin, Traffic Warden is the second foal and first runner for the winning Exceed And Excel mare Efficiently a daughter of the marvellous broodmare Dextrous.

A wonderful servant to Woodlands and Darley, the Group II MRC Sandown Guineas winner Dextrous (Quest For Fame) left four stakes-winners, Group 1 VRC Oaks heroine Willowy (Kermadec), Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes winner Skilled (Commands), dual Group II winner and Group 1 Golden Slipper runner-up Sidestep, and Group II ATC Theo Marks Stakes winner Ambidexter.

Efficiently has a yearling by Frosted (USA) and foaled a Street Boss (USA) colt on October 3, before missing to Blue Point (IRE).

Traffic Warden is the 69th stakes-winner for Darlet Stud's Street Boss (USA).
