Trial Watch – Glamour Colts in Action

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 7

Zoustar colt Ozzmosis won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring, while highly rated I Am Invincible colt King’s Gambit is looking for his first G1 and both were in action at the Randwick trials this morning.

Third in last year’s Golden Slipper, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained King’s Gambit is becoming a problem child and the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate taking on older horses from barrier one always looked as though it might be mission impossible and so it turned out to be.

He finished eighth and was sent back to the trials to regroup with Tommy Berry doing a good job to shut him down early in his heat before letting him stride to the line under  a hold to win by a long neck over the stayer Goldman.

Berry rode King’s Gambit when he won the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes last spring beating Ozzmosis, so might be the man to get him back on track when it counts on race day.

The Bjorn Baker trained Ozzmosis has been given a good solid build up for his return and was having his second trial back when he;d together and narrowly edged out by quality filly Platinum Jubilee, who was chased along to win in nearly a second quicker time than King’s Gambit.

Newgate, China Horse Club and partners are involved in both King’s Gambit and Ozzmosis, who may ultimately end up spending the next stage of their lives together on the stallion roster at Newgate.
