First Win for $1.5Million Pierro Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 6

Expensive $1.5million Pierro colt Pasima has been working towards a win in recent weeks and got the job done with a powerful late surge to claim victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The Ciaron Maher trained three year-old has had three frustrating second placings at his past three starts and when stepped up to 1600m for the first time he broke the ice.

Ridden quietly by Jason Collett, Pasima let loose with a swift charge down the middle of the track to arrive on the line and win by a long head going away.

A $1.5million Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Kia Ora Stud draft, Pasima runs for a syndicate that includes Halo Racing Services in whose colours he runs with Kia Ora also remaining in the ownership group.

Pasima was a $1.5million Magic Millions purchase.

Jason Collett just missed on Pasima at his previous run and was glad to make amends.

“I was more patient on him this time. He just doesn’t have a lot of gate speed and makes things more difficult for himself, but his turn of foot was able to overcome it,” said Collett.

Pasima is the second winner from Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Ravi, a full sister to stakes-winner Elzaam, who has been a successful sire in the UK.

Pierro has 10 entries for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale including the first foal (filly) of world champion Winx.
