$460,000 for Justify Filly Bred on Magic Cross

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 3

Twin Hills Stud consigned the only yearling to be offered at Inglis Premier bred on the same cross as Golden Slipper favourite Storm Boy being by Justify (USA) from a daughter of Fastnet Rock and they were well rewarded when she sold for $460,000 on Sunday to Clinton McDonald Racing / Shane McGrath.

$460,000 Justify (USA) filly from Cavaco.

McDonald is the trainer of outstanding Group I Blue Diamond winner Hayasugi, who was purchased and part-owned by McGrath, so Twin Hills’ Olly Tait was thrilled to see the filly from Cavaco snapped up by such great judges.

“Three years ago we decided to send a mare to Justify and as it turned out she was a Fastnet Rock mare and as we now know he’s done so well with those mares,” said Tait.

“The timing was good, but she still had to produce a nice filly and then the filly has had to do it herself. She’s come through every stage well and it’s a great result.”

The filly is the second foal of Cavaco, an unraced full sister to Group I winner Rock Classic and a grand-daughter of Group I VATC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Midnight Fever.

Justify also had a filly from stakes-placed Exceed and Excel mare Belhamage make $280,000 for Yulong when knocked down to Trilogy / Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

Justify has five more entries to sell over the next two days.
