Mark Smith - Sunday March 3

An extraordinary spectacle unfolded overnight at Meydan during the Listed UAE One Thousand Guineas, revealing not only the exceptional talent of the winning horse but also showcasing the remarkable horsemanship of William Buick.

Forced to kick his irons out as the saddle slipped around the neck of the long odds-on favourite Cinderella's Dream, Buick looked the last of the straightbacks as the undefeated daughter of Shamardal (USA) continued to extend her lead.

Making it four wins on the trot, Cinderella's Dream thoroughly enjoyed herself in a five-and-a-half demolition of the stakes-winning Territories (IRE) filly Geologist.

Last season at two, Cinderella's Dream won at Lingfield and Thirsk.

The

Charlie Appleby-trained filly made her seasonal debut over 7f at Meydan on February 2, defeating stablemate Beautiful Love (Siyouni) and Frost At Dawn (Frosted) in a result that took on further significance later in the night when Frost At Dawn won the Group III Turf Sprint by two and a half lengths in course record time.

The Godolphin homebred is the first foal of the Dubawi mare Espadrille, who won two of four starts and finished fourth in the Listed Polly Stakes at Newmarket to bring the curtain down on her career.

Sadly, it seems that Espadrille only had one foal before her death at eight.
