One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 26

Gai Waterhouse has always been a fan of Pierro, having won the 2YO Triple Crown with the champion son of Lonhro and she and co-trainer Adrian Bott produced a talented debut winner by him at Newcastle on Monday.

Three year-old  filly Miss Amore proved a class above in the 1200m maiden, accelerating with ease to put paid to the race favourite and win by three and a half lengths.

Miss Amore was passed in at Inglis Easter shy of her $300,000 reserve by her breeder Lustre Lodge and retained to race which may prove a very good decision.

Miss Amore is the first foal of Group II placed Fastnet Rock mare My True Love, a daughter of Group III winner Lectrice, from the family of Group I winners Leica Guv and Light Fantastic.

Fastnet Rock is a broodmare sire in the limelight at present and has a good record with Pierro producing Group III winner Rock and two more stakes-winners with the winner to runner strike rate at nearly 69%.
