Stratum's Egyptian Symbol Powers to Victory in Starlight Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday December 2

A timely win for Egyptian Symbol in Saturday's Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill as her half-sister by Smart Missile will soon be departing for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale.

Winner of the Group III Nivison Stakes when making her seasonal debut in October last year, the Bjorn Baker-trained mare performs at her best fresh and she was making her first start here since finishing unplaced in the Group 1 Tatts Tiara at Doomben in June.

"She'd run really well last preparation, obviously without winning, but ran a close second to Eckstein and we know how good that form has worked out and she didn't have a lot of luck in races like the Stradbroke," Baker said.

"So I'm thrilled to see her back doing what she does best today.

"She's always been a high-quality mare and been a good horse to me for a long time.

"She's Magic Millions eligible so we'll probably look towards going there again. She's been there the last two years and been a bit unlucky. We might freshen her up and go straight to the sprint."

Bred by Bruce Neill's Cressfield Stud, Egyptian Symbol races in the colours of her breeder after failing to make her $100,000 reserve at the 2014, Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

The daughter of the deceased Stratum advances her record to 6 wins, 4 seconds and 4 thirds from 20 starts with earnings of $657,255

She is the best of five winners from Our Egyptian Raine, a Group I winner in New Zealand, who placed in nine Group I races in Australia.

Our Egyptian Raine has a 2yo colt by Zoustar and a yearling filly foal by Smart Missile and a filly foal by Hinchinbrook.
