Star Mares Confirmed for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Wednesday February 14

G1 winner Startantes and Stakes-winning Extreme Choice mare Extremist are the two latest star attractions confirmed for the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, for which entries are now officially open.

G1 winner Startantes is for sale!

Startantes burst onto the scene as an autumn 2YO in 2021, racing five times as a juvenile for two wins and two minor placings.

But it was as a 3YO filly she announced herself as a filly of the highest-class.

She won her first three starts as a 3YO before stepping up to G1 company against the boys in the Golden Rose over 1400m, where she finished less than three lengths off the front pair of In The Congo and Anamoe, defeating the likes of Captivant, Hilal and Jamaea.

Startantes then backed up in the G1 Flight Stakes, finishing a close-up 3rd in a big field of 14, with the likes of Swift Witness, Four Moves Ahead, She’s All Class and Mallory in arrears.

She returned an even stronger filly in the autumn of her 3YO season, finishing a luckless 0.1 length 2nd to Hinged in the G1 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Randwick, that day defeating the likes of Fangirl, Espiona, Hope In Your Heart, Never Been Kissed etc.

However, it was in the G1 Tatt’s Tiara over 1400m at Eagle Farm where she produced her tour de force, winning in explosive fashion, defeating top-class older mares like Snapdancer, Atishu, Away Game, Shout The Bar, Palaisipan, Vangelic, Annavisto, Kiku etc.

That effort was enough to earn Startantes the title of Joint Champion 3YO filly in Australia for the 2021-22 season.

The rarity of a mare the quality of Startantes being offered for public auction is best illustrated by the fact that she will be just the 4th Australian G1-winning 3YO filly at 1400m or less to be offered for public auction off the track in Australia in the past 10 years.

Extremist is also a rare offering in the broodmare market this year.

The well-performed daughter of the Southern Hemisphere’s most extraordinary young stallion, Extreme Choice, is a Stakes winner over 1200m.

She is racing in fine fashion, beaten just 1.5 lengths behind in-form mare Lady Laguna at Stakes level six weeks ago.

The Robert Heathcote-trained pair will both be offered in the Newgate Consignment draft at The Chairman’s Sale, which will be held at Riverside Stables on the evening of Thursday May 9.

Heathcote described the mares as “outstanding race fillies who are destined for great things as broodmares’’.

“Startantes will be one of the most unique breeding prospects offered in Australia this year,’’ Heathcote said.

“These G1-winning mares have proven year in, year out to be exquisite prospects who keep producing valuable foals and Startantes ticks all the boxes that would suggest she will be a quality producer.

“She’s the perfect size, she’s a magnificent physical, has an amazing temperament and is proven against the best fillies and mares of recent seasons.

“Extremist is a six-time winner, a Stakes winner and three-times Stakes placed, she’s magnificently bred and when buyers see her in the flesh, I think that they will agree that she is a stunning individual.

“The Chairman’s Sale is a remarkable evening that has proven to attract all the world’s leading broodmare buyers and it will be exciting to see how the next phase plays out for both Startantes and Extremist.’’

Henry Field was ecstatic to be offering both Startantes and Extremist in the Newgate Consignment draft.

“Our Inglis Chairman’s draft is shaping as one of the strongest line ups of fillies and mares Newgate has ever taken to a breeding stock sale, it’s extremely exciting,’’ Field said.

“Both these mares are top class, Startantes especially being a Group 1 winner is such a rare offering to public market and we’re thrilled to have been entrusted with these by Robert Heathcoat and his owners.’’

Inglis’ Senior Bloodstock Consultant Harry Bailey added: “There is incredible momentum behind the Chairman’s Sale and this is further evidence of that.

“To have mares such as Startantes and Extremist join the likes of She’s Extreme, Kimochi, Steinem, High Emocean etc already confirmed is a testament to how the industry views The Chairman’s Sale and we can’t wait to make more major catalogue announcements in coming weeks.’’

Places in the Inglis Chairman’s Sale – which will be held at Riverside on the evening of Thursday May 9 - are strictly limited.
