Prime Thoroughbreds Strike Early at Inglis Classic

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 11

Joe O’Neill of Prime Thoroughbreds has a happy knack for finding value at Inglis Classic having purchased $1.2million earning filly Rubisaki at this sale back in 2018 for $85,000 and he struck early at the sale this year purchasing fillies by So You Think and Pierro on Sunday.

Offered as Lot 17 by Valiant Stud, the So You Think filly from Weona Karioi was snapped up by Prime Thoroughbreds for $210,000 and is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I placed stakes-winner Political Debate.

She is the first foal of her dam Weona Karioi, a placed All Too Hard mare from an outstanding international female family that has had a good pedigree update with New Zealand trained filly Sudbina winning the Group III Desert Gold Stakes to add to a Black Type packed page that also features Group I winners such as Foreteller (GB).

The So You Think filly is destined for the Patrick Payne stable, while the Pierro filly is headed to Kris Lees and Joe O’Neill sees her as an Oaks style of filly for the future.

$130,000 Pierro filly from Araaja (IRE).

Secured for $130,000 from HP Thoroughbreds, the Pierro filly is the third foal of French stakes-winner Araaja (IRE), a half-sister by Iffraaj to Group I placed stakes-winner Tom Melbourne (IRE) from the family of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (IRE). The filly was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the Edinburgh Park Dispersal at Magic Millions last year for $60,000.
