Santa Ana Lane's sibling tops February (Early) Online Sale

Media Release - Wednesday February 7

A half sister to champion sprinter Santa Ana Lane topped today’s Inglis Digital February (Early) Online Sale, realising $205,000.

Fast Star (Zoustar x Fast Fleet) was offered by Malua Racing on behalf of the horse’s owners, one of which purchased her.

Bill Pearce of Bromfield Park was the winning bidder. Pearce bred Fast Star, sold her through the Willow Park Stud draft at the 2021 Easter Yearling Sale and retained a 25% share upon selling.

Fast Star topped the sale at $205,000.

Days after Fast Star won her most recent outing last month she bowed a tendon so was put up for sale on Inglis Digital.

Pearce wanted to buy her outright to breed with and was thrilled to have done so today.

“We thought she was a black type mare on the track, even Blake Shinn said after he won on her a few weeks ago that it was just a matter of time and the right placement and she’d win a Stakes race, and then four days later she bowed a tendon,’’ Pearce said.

“That’s a 12-18 month injury so we put her up for sale and she’ll be retired immediately, she’ll head to Vinery Stud now to continue her recovery and we’ll send her to a stallion this season.

“I wanted to breed with her because being by Zoustar, the Northern Meteor line and the Fairy King Prawn family, it’s one I believe in and one I want to keep breeding into.

“Inglis Digital is a great concept, it’s a platform I’ve used on many occasions and will happily continue to do so.’’

Pearce will offer a Written Tycoon half brother to Fast Star as lot 22 in the Vinery draft at this year’s Easter Sale, at Riverside on April 7 and 8.

Today’s second-top lot was the G3 placed Atmosphere, which sold to trainer Jack Bruce and syndicator High Calibre Racing for $135,000.

High Calibre’s Dale Maguire admitted the price was “right up there’’ with the most expensive horse his syndication company had ever purchased but had confidence Bruce would get the desired results with the four-year-old.

“We think he’s a Queensland Winter Carnival horse, we haven’t got specific targets yet but he’s a very nice horse, I mean he’s technically only a Class 2 horse but he’s three-times Stakes placed, he’s run second in a Hawkesbury Guineas to Hawaii Five Oh, he’s a lovely horse who we think we can have a lot of fun with,’’ Maguire said.

“It’s early days for us at High Calibre, we’re only a couple of years old so $135,000 is definitely one of our larger purchases. We’ll see how it plays out in time as to whether we made the right call!’’

Atmosphere was part of an eight-horse Godolphin draft which grossed $407,100, with Atmosphere and Gravina ($105,000) both realising six figures.

“There was really strong interest again in the Godolphin horses and it was great to see them sell so well,’’ Godolphin’s Jason Walsh said.

“We’re very pleased with the overall outcome, with the values the horses achieved and the homes they’ve all gone to.

“We wish the new owners all the best and hope to see many more positive results for them in coming months and years with these horses.’’

Another significant element of the February (Early) Sale was a 46-strong Scenic Lodge dispersal, which grossed $442,250.

Scenic Lodge’s Jeremy Smith said: “We’re absolutely rapt with the results, the process all the way along was so seamless.

“Special mention to Inglis’ Sinead Flannery who we were dealing with throughout, she was brilliant to deal with and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome today.’’

In total the February (Early) Sale grossed $3,466,150 with an 85% clearance rate.

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital February (Late) Sale, which will be held from Feb 23-28.

Entries will close at midnight on Wednesday February 21.
