Blue Sky Buy Tavistock Colt

Media Release - Wednesday November 22
Patience has paid off for vendors Nick Fairweather and Nicole Brown after they sold their Tavistock colt (lot 92) for $260,000 to Julian Blaxland of Blue Sky Bloodstock at Wednesday's session of the Ready to Run Sale.

"We are absolutely rapt with the result and really rapt with the Kiltannon team (who prepared him), they did such a great job with him," Fairweather said.

Lot 92- Trish DunnellThe couple purchased the colt, who is out of the Exceed and Excel mare Diva Down Under, as a weanling with intentions of pinhooking the colt for the yearling sales.

However, they suffered an early setback when he failed to meet his $140,000 reserve at this year's New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale. But they kept their faith in the colt.

"We bought him as a weanling out of the paddock from the breeder and we took him through the yearling sales. He was very weak and immature and it probably came up a bit too soon for him," Fairweather said.

"We liked the horse so much and you generally find those nice young foals come back around for you, so we are happy he came up in time for the Ready to Runs.

"He has just thrived since being with Mark Forbes at Kiltannon Stables and he has gone from strength to strength. He's improved since he's come up here and that showed with the high interest in him, so we're very happy with the result."

Kiltannon Stables had success earlier in the day when they sold another Tavistock (Lot 78) for $80,000 to Hardwicke Racing and Waterford Bloodstock. – NZ Racing Desk.
