Record Priced Epaulette Wins, Half-Brother At Classic

Breednet - Thursday January 18

Former Darley stallion Epaulette may have left our shores for Turkey a couple of years ago but his highest priced yearling won her maiden impressively at Wyong on Thursday giving an update to her half-sister at Inglis Classic next month.

Still Alice, a filly out of the Made Of Gold (USA) mare Academy Idol is the 12th foal of her dam, who has left two time stakes winner Meryl, a full -sister to Still Alice, along with the stakes placed Miss Idyllic and Chosen Idol.

Still Alice as a yearling

Offered by the Hodge family’s Scone property, Riversdale Farm at the 2022 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Still Alice made $300,000 to Francis Cook’s Mystery Downs, making her the record priced yearling by her sire.

She made her debut at Gosford on New Year’s Eve finishing a nice third then at Wyong on Thursday was made to work hard from a wide gate to get on pace and sustained it in a tough effort to win by over length for her trainers Lee and Cherie Curtis.

Academy Idol’s 14th foal will be offered next month, also by Riversdale as Lot 49 at the Inglis Classic Sale on February 11.

The colt is by Newgate’s North Pacific, who’s 15 yearlings at Magic Millions Gold Coast averaged $137,000 off his first season fee of $22,000.
