Last to First Winner Brings Karaka Update

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 18

Well related Not a Single Doubt filly Don’tdoubtlayla unleashed a brilliant finish to charge home from last to win at Randwick on Wednesday bringing a timely update for her Karaka bound three-quarter sister by Anders.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Don’tdoubtlayla was first up after a lengthy spell having not raced since a debut fourth at Echuca last July. Easy in the market, she settled at the rear for Jason Collett and let down with a booming run to win the 1150m maiden by nearly two lengths running away.

“She got quite warm in the yard so has done well to hold it altogether and perform like that,” said Jason Collett.

A $250,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Tyreel Stud draft, Don’tdoubtlayla is the second winner for metro winning Zabeel mare Smiles for Layla, a full sister to Group II winner Adrift, the dam of two time stakes-winner Zarastro. The family has also produced Cox Plate winner Maldivian and Group I winning sprinter Entriviere.

Smiles for Layla was on-sold by Tyreel Stud at the 2022 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $110,000 and her yearling filly by Anders will be offered at Karaka Book 1 as Lot 414 by Landsdowne Park as agent for Monovale Holdings.
