Rich Enuff Filly Abounding Captures Magic Millions 3yo Guineas - Half-Brother for Inglis Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday January 13

After a lengthy delay caused by the scratching of nominal favourite Sydney Bowler at the barriers, the big baldy face of the admirably consistent Rich Enuff filly Abounding emerged from the pack to capture the $3,000,000 Gold Coast Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (RL).

Ridden by Martin Harley for Robert Heathcote, Abounding came with a well-timed finish to edge the Capitalist gelding Sovereign Fund by a head with the Trapeze Artist colt Flying Trapeze third ahead of the Capitalist colt fourth in what proved a triumph for sons of Written Tycoon.

Carrying the colours of First Light Racing, Abounding broke through at stakes level at her previous start in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm, after finishing second in the Group III Ken Russell Memorial Classic, second in the Listed Mode Stakes, second in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes, and third in the Listed Oxlade Stakes.

With the $1,708,800 winners cheque, Abounding advances her record to four wins, four seconds and two thirds from 11 starts with earnings of $2,117,500.

For the Irishman Martin Harley, it completely contrasted to this day last year.

“It’s unbelievable. This time last year, four days away from the Magic Millions, I broke my neck,” Harley said.

“What a superstar this filly is. They all had to cope with the delay, but she kept it all together.

“She had a good run, and I got a lovely split in the straight.

“This makes me very proud,

“Thanks to Rob Heathcote and the team and the First Light Racing team, who have been so good to me.”

The 3-year-old chestnut filly was a $75,000 buy for First Light Racing/Robert Heathcote Racing from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft from Book 2 of the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Abounding is the best of four winners from five to race for the 4-time winning Casino Prince mare Transonic, which carried the Patinack colours to a third in the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes and third in the Listed Ethereal Stakes.

Telemon has entered Transonic's Russian Camelot colt in the Inglis Classic (Lot 792).

Transonic's dam Jet Past (SAF) (Jet Master) was a 4-time winner and twice Group 1-placed. Her dam, Rather Rich (Star Way), is the daughter of the Group III-winning Sir Tristram mare Touch Of Silver, a half-sister to Petrava, who was honoured as South Africa's Champion 3YO Filly of 1984.

Petrava won ten races, including four Group 1s. She left her mark as the dam of Champion 3YO Filly Hoeberg (NZ), whose wins included the Group 1 Cape Fillies Guineas and Group 1 Paddock Stakes, and the Group II winner Jallad, who became the champion sire in South Africa in 2001.

After foaling another Russian Camelot colt on November 3, Transonic was covered by Capitalist.

Woodside Park Stud’s Rich Enuff enjoyed a profitable day with his talented 4-year-old son, Union Army, romping in over 1200m at Rosehill.
