The Pride of Tasmania - Grenville Stud Sell Final Filly for $675,000

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 12

It’s a long way from Tasmania to the Gold Coast, but Graeme and Bart McCulloch of Grenville Stud will be going home horse free after selling their final yearling of three that made the trip and the Exceed and Excel filly from Galway Girl provided another great result when bought by Peter Moody for $675,000.

$675,000 Exceed and Excel filly from Galway Girl.

Earlier in the week they sold the Wootton Bassett (GB) half-brother to Think About It for $900,000 to Tom Magnier and the Bivouac colt from Peppermint Patty for $160,000 also to Peter Moody.

“It is easy to say they she was the one we identified about ten days ago when she first got here and had to way four days to get her,” said Peter Moody.

“Had to pay more than we thought but Katherine and I and the team said she was the one were weren’t going home without.

“She’s just a lovely physical. She’s a beautiful filly from a  young mare and by Exceed And Excel.”

Moody already has a stakes-winning juvenile filly this season by Exceed and Excel in Eneeza and will be hoping he has bought another.

“We did identify Eneeza as our filly last year and we didn’t get to buy her but thankfully we got her to train and with this filly we didn’t have a client but I’m sure we’ll find some,” Moody added.

“She’s handled the trip all the way from Tassie and she’s obviously got an unbelievable attitude as well.

“I’ve bought two off Grenville this sale and congratulations to them. They’ve had three lovely yearling - the brother to Think About It and I bought the other two.

“They’re to be congratulated on the way they got them here, travelled them and presented them is fantastic and they’re all bloody nice horses.”

The $675,000 filly is the first foal of Galway Girl, who was bred by Segenhoe and raced by them before being offered on Inglis Digital in April 2020 where the daughter of I Am Invincible was bought for $25,000 and went to race in Tasmania for the McCulloch family.

Galway Girl won one race for Segenhoe and was sold on Inglis Digital as a race mare for $25,000.

She won five races in Tasmania for Grenville Stud before retiring to stud and has produced a real gem with her very first foal.

Galway Girl has a filly by Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside to follow and is back in foal to him again.
