$1.6million Colt Wootton Bassett – Runaway Leader of First Season Sires

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 11

After three sessions of the Magic Millions yearling sale Wootton Bassett is a runaway leader on the first season sires by average list with all 25 of his yearlings offered so far selling for 100% clearance at an average $471,000 with a colt from Fiera Vista providing a highlight late in the day when purchased by Tom Magnier for $1.6million.

Consigned by Segenhoe Stud on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds, the colt is the second foal of stakes-winning Exceed and Excel mare Fiera Vista, a three-quarter sister to Group II winner Empress Rock from the family of world champion sprinter Silent Witness.

$1.6million Wootton Bassett (GB) colt from Fiera Vista.

“He’s just a real quality horse. Very athletic and in fairness all the team really liked this horse and it is a credit to Peter (O’Brien) and John Camilleri,” said Tom Magnier, who has been blown away by the response to Wootton Bassett.

“It is great to see it. The best breeders around the country have gone to this horse.

“John Camilleri is a very smart breeder, the best trainers, the best trainers’ agents, breeders, they’re all linked in to this stallion.

“The horse has every chance and we have every faith in him.  We’ll need a bit of luck, but the stallion he is kicking amazing goals and the market seems to have the confidence that he is going to do the same south (Southern Hemisphere).”

Wootton Bassett has 10 more yearlings to be offered at this sale.

The colt from Fiera Vista is the fourth yearling at this sale bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and offered by Segenhoe to sell for $1million or more. Fiera Vista has a colt by I Am Invincible last spring and is now in foal to Dundeel.
