$1million for Newhaven Park Consigned Ole Kirk Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 10

The first million dollar yearling on the second day of trade at Magic Millions on Wednesday was a gorgeous grey filly from the first crop of Vinery Stud’s Champion 3YO Ole Kirk, a blue blood son of Written Tycoon from the family of champions Black Caviar and All Too Hard.

Bred and consigned by Newhaven Park, who also bred and raced her Group II placed mother Supara, the filly was bought by Griffiths De Kock Racing/Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA)/Brookdale Racing.

"We loved her from first inspection, we wanted her from the get-go, and she was the one we wanted to bring home," said Robboe Griffiths.

“Ole Kirk was a great horse and she (Supara) has already produced a Group 1 performer so we can’t see why she won’t do it again.

“She comes off a champion farm in Newhaven, they can breed a lot of Group 1 winners, their history says that, so we were more comfortable doing that off their farm.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in the box. Every time I went past to inspect her somebody else had her out, so we knew there was going to be a lot of competition but we were the lucky ones that secured her.”

$1million Ole Kirk filly from Supara

She is a half-sister to Group I placed Brosnan and promising New Zealand winner Superbly Written (3f Written Tycoon), who made $800,000 at this sale in 2022 when bought by David Ellis.

Griffiths is hopeful the filly will be up and running at two.

“We’ll see how she grows out. Ole Kirk ran as a two-year-old but more so in the autumn, so whether she could be a two-year-old in the Blue Diamond series just depends on how she handles her workload," he said.

“Certainly in the autumn you would think so, based on the half (Brosnan) is already placed in a two-year-old Group 1 and we’ve seen Written Tycoon get early success with Capitalist and horses like that.

“I can’t see why she wouldn’t be a two-year-old looking at her shape. She’s got the shape of a two-year-old, but we’ll just wait and see how it plays out.”

Supara has a filly to follow by Russian Revolution and is in foal to Coolmore’s young first season Snitzel son Best of Bordeaux.

Ole Kirk has a strong selection of yearlings that have been highly praised before the sale.

“We know how good Written Tycoon is and Ole Kirk is out of the family of a champion in Black Caviar, and we’ve seen how successful All Too Hard is," Griffiths added.

“If a young stallion is going to make a success, he’s got the genetics and the race record to do it."
