One to Watch – Nowra – Half-Sister for MM 2024

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 31

The popular country stable of Barb Joseph and Paul and Matt Jones have a bit to look forward to in 2024 and particularly with a bargain priced filly that bolted in on debut at Nowra on New Year’s Eve and has a half-sister to be offered at Magic Millions.

Sent out a short priced favourite for the 1100m maiden, I’m a Steel more than justified the confidence of punters when she blitzed her rivals. Ridden by Quayde Krogh, she speared through along the inside and was in a different class opening up to win by four lengths.

I’m a Steel looks to be a saleyard gift, snapped up by her trainers for a paltry $15,000 at the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale from the Vinery Stud draft.

From the first and only Australian crop of foals by Japanese bred Group I winning Deep Impact stallion Real Steel (Jpn), I’m a Steel is a half-sister to this season’s Group II placed juvenile filly Dream of the Moon and is the first foal and second winner from Moonchild, an unraced half-sister by Charge Forward to stakes-placed Animate.

Her stakes-placed grand-dam Flowerchild s a half-sister to Group II winning sprinter Wild Rain and further back it’s the family of Australian Horse of the Year Northerly and current Group I winning sprint star Overpass.

Glenbeigh Farm will offer the third foal from Moonchild, a filly by Maurice (Jpn) at Magic Millions as Lot 976 and she is pictured below.
