Hat-Trick for Unbeaten Sydney Bowler – Half-Sister for Inglis Classic

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 30

A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from Widden Stud, talented three year-old Sydney Bowler made it three wins in as many starts when scoring at Randwick on Saturday bringing a nice pedigree update for his yearling half-sister by Doubtland heading to Inglis Classic.

Trained by John O’Shea, the Deep Field gelding made his debut win a maiden win at Newcastle in December 2 and then won again at the same venue on December 16 before coming to town for a Benchmark 72 event over 1300m.

He made it three wins on the trot and three for the month when racing clear to win by more than two lengths and has now banked nearly $160,000 in prizemoney.

"Very good win from him, we expected it from him," O'Shea said.

"He's been tough all week, very fit, wouldn't blow out a candle after his gallop the other day.

"Off to the Gold Coast hopefully, should go to the Guineas. We'll see how he pulls up tomorrow and Monday and work our way from there."

Sydney Bowler was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from Widden Stud.

Sydney Bowler was bred by Gilgai Farm and made $250,000 when they offered him as a weanling at the Magic Millions National Sale with Redwall Bloodstock snapping him up as a pinhook prospect. Sent back to the Gold Coast in the Widden draft as a yearling in January he made $300,000 when bought by Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/John O'Shea Racing and Hedge has a share in the ownership.

Sydney Bowler is the first winner for Shy Talk, an unraced Shamus Award mare that comes from one of Gilgai Farm’s very successful families being a sibling to triple Group I winning $4.8million earner Jameka, Group II winner Grandslam and Group II placed Nikitas.

Gilgai Farm will offer the current yearling from Shy Talk, a filly from the first crop of Widden Stud’s young sire Doubtland at Inglis Classic in the Milburn Creek draft as Lot 693.
