Wolfgang Earns his Ticket to the 2yo Classic- King's Legacy Half-Brother at the Magic Millions

Mark Smith - Saturday December 30

A last-start winner at Morphettville, the expensive Exceed And Excel colt Wolfgang made the trip to Doomben to capture the Anders 1st Yearlings On Offer Hcp (1200m) and earn a place in the $3,000,000 Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast.

Ridden by Blake Shinn for Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans, Wolfgang enjoyed the run of the race behind the leader, Defiant Boom.

Eased out on straightening, Wolfgang drew level with the Spirit Of Boom debutant, who was not going down without a fight and fell three-quarters of a length short.

Another Spirit Of Boom first-stater, the filly Spirited, was two and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Wolfgang made his debut when unplaced in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington in October.

Off the scene for nine weeks, the son of Exceed And Excel led at every call in a 1000m race at Morphettville on December 9.

"We are very proud of him. It's a lot for these young colts to travel," Lucy Yeomans said.

"Full credit to the team at home for keeping him up and going, and a big thanks to the team at Peter Robls. We are staying there with four horses, and they have been really accommodating.

Sporting the Aquis silks, Wolfgang was a $500,000 purchase for Kennewell Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA)/Matt Houldsworth from the Bhima Thorogjhbreds draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Bred by Jonathan Munz's GSA Bloodstock, Wolfgang is the second winner from as many foals for the Group II-placed Star Witness mare Serenade, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Stratum Star and the dual Group III winner Prague, who was runner-up in the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes.

Wolfgang a $500,000 Magic Millions yearling

As a descendant of the champion Emancipation, there is no shortage of yearlings from the family heading to the sales in 2024.

At the Magic Millions, Bhima offers a King's Legacy half-brother to Wolfgang (Lot 164), a Capitalist colt out of Seranade's dam Purely Spectacular (Lot 66), and a Dundeel colt out of Stratum Star's sister Is What It Is (lot 797)

Kulani Park consigns a Snitzel colt out of Seranade's sister Red Velvet Swing (lot 88) to the Magic Millions.
