What’s the Secret to Buying a Group One Winner at the Upcoming Sales?

The team at Pedigrees 360 claim they have no idea what “the secret” is but they do believe they have an excellent idea of how to dramatically increase your chances of finding that elusive Group one winner.

Pedigree guru, Leo Tsatsaronis said, “Ever since we launched our software last year, we have believed that using it enabled buyers and breeders to greatly improve their chances of getting a Group One winner. The exciting thing is that we now have the statistical data to support that belief.”

The Pedigrees 360 software uses highly sophisticated algorithms and machine learning to examine the pedigrees of horses going back 9 generations to identify the genetic attributes of fast horses and slow horses.

Some excellent examples are these champions from 3 different regions of the world:

Three time HK Horse of the Year.

Four-time G1 winning 3YO in 2023 for Coolmore.

2023 G1 Breeders Cup Classic winner.

“What we have now done is to analyse the breeding of all Group 1 winners from Australia, NZ, the US and UK during the 2023 year to see how their pedigree profiles rate. We have then checked them against the profiles of the general horse population as represented by over 2,400 yearlings sold in some of the world’s high end yearling sales during the year, i.e Magic Millions GC, Inglis Easter, and Keeneland," Tsatsaronis explained.

“It should be remembered that these yearlings represent the high end of the market anyway, so we were slanting the data very much against our software. Despite that though, what the data showed was that Group 1 winners during 2023 were significantly more likely to have a higher rated pedigree from our software than the general racehorse population as represented by those yearling catalogues.”

“There are always going to be individual horses who buck the trend and there were some outstanding Group 1 winners who didn’t rate highly on our pedigree rating. The simple fact was that, of the Group 1 winners during the year 31% had an “outstanding” pedigree rating while in the general racehorse population only 13% have an “outstanding” rating. You can do the maths then which clearly shows the extent to which our clients are significantly increasing their chances of securing a Group 1 winner by using our software,” Tsatsaronis said.

The release of this data by the Pedigrees 360 team is timed to coincide with the launch of their new upgraded website which includes numerous new features, including a new Sales Catalog dashboard to quickly access every Lot in all the upcoming sales. Click here to visit the site.

“The software in the new website allows our clients to dive a lot deeper into a pedigree and includes additional information on, line breeding, the x path, sibling duplications etc. It also provides a range of price points to meet the needs of our differing client base. I’m sure though that some people will find our new “Free Trial” feature very appealing as it will give them the chance to take the software for a “test drive”.

"The trial is full functioning and provides a good idea of the amazing range of pedigree information which the software provides and what a powerful tool it is when it comes to buying or breeding high quality horses.”

Pedigrees 360 director, Peter Stewart added, “Talking about the range of pedigree information provided, during this past week, I was chatting to one of our valued clients, Mel Copelin from the progressive Torryburn Stud. Mel said to me, ‘I use the 360 software almost everyday and find it an extremely useful tool but even for those cynics who don’t believe in algorithms or machine learning and prefer to do it themselves, there is so much information in there that what used to take hours to do now takes just 5 minutes.”

“It is difficult to get a stronger recommendation than that,” Stewart concluded.
