Zoustar World’s Best for Winners

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 22

With just over a week before the end of 2023, Zoustar has no challengers in the race to be leading sire in the world by winners this year, a title taken last year by Japan based Lord Kanaloa.

Lord Kanaloa was the world's leading sire of winners in 2022.

Known in Australia as the sire of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa, Lord Kanaloa posted a tally of 284 winners worldwide in 2022 and this year has dominated in Japan where he is currently on top of their general sires list for winners (252) and earnings.

Worldwide this year Lord Kanaloa has sired 262 winners (12 stakes-winners), while Zoustar has clocked up a whopping 278 winners with 18 stakes-winners.

Zoustar is on track to be the world's leading sire of winners for 2023.

Other heavy hitters in the business of posting global winners are US champion sire Into Mischief, who has had a productive 2023 siring 228 winners including 26 stakes-winners, and European based Lope de Vega with 216 winners including 26 stakes-winners.

Australia’s reigning champion sire I Am Invincible is sitting on 217 global winners for 2023 with 22 stakes-winners, but does not have the shuttle sire advantage of Zoustar, whose tally of 278 includes 53 Northern Hemisphere bred two and three year-old..

Zosustar’s fast start to our season with 100 winners in the five months since August 1 is another factor in his worldwide success.

Zoustar was in hot demand at the Gold Coast in 2023 with 30 yearlings averaging $628,667 and is set to play a big role at Magic Millions 2024 with 45 entries
