Zoustar Hits 100 Winners!

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 21

Widden Stud’s Zoustar became the first sire to produce 100 winners this season at Gosford on Thursday when the half-sister to Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Magic Time opened her account.

Trained by Joe Pride for a group of Proven Thoroughbreds owners, Cosmonova showed good ability  at the trials earlier this year and was spelled after an unplaced debut at Randwick back in august.

Primed for her return with a couple of recent quiet trials, she loomed into contention on the turn for Reece Jones and let down with a good finish  to win the 1000m maiden by a length.

Cosmonova was well bought by Jamie Walter of Proven Thoroughbreds having been snapped up from the Milburn Creek draft at Inglis Premier for $220,000 before Magic Time had raced.

Cosmonova was a $220,000 Inglis "Premier purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds.

“That was a good start and she did have an excuse when she raced earlier in the year,” said Joe Pride.

“She trialled up well and we were expecting to see something like that. I just loved the way she let down.

“She’s a half-sister to Magic Time by a great sire in Zoustar and we didn’t pay that much for her, so she was well picked out by Jamie Walter.”

Winning rider Reece Jones was also impressed with Cosmonova.

“She’s still learning her craft, but she’s a professional and knows what she’s here for,” he said.

Bred by John and Trish Muir and Milburn Creek, Cosmonova is the second foal and second winner from Group III winning Nicconi mare Time Awaits, a grand-daughter of Group II West Australian Oaks winner Mystic Chantry.

While Magic Time was passed in and retained to race by the Muir’s and has won over $1.2million, the subsequent foals from Time Awaits have been sold with a Dundeel colt from the mare selling at Inglis Easter this year for $300,000.

Time Awaits has a yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn), but no foal this year after missing to Wild Ruler and is now in foal to I Am Invincible on an early cover.
