$350,000 Investment Looking Good - Half-Brother for MM 2024

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 20

Raheen Stud made a sizable investment at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this year paying $350,000 for two year-old Written Tycoon filly Certainlycan, who had gained a Black Type placing on debut in the week before the sale, and the now three year-old filly cast off maiden status with an impressive win at Doomben on Wednesday.

Trained by Tony Gollan, Certainlycan was having her third run this preparation for her new owners and showed her true ability as a hot favourite.

Cantankerous behind the gates, she gave punters a few anxious moments before taking her place for James Orman, but once they jumped Certainlycan was all business. She sat outside the leader and then powered clear to win the 1200m maiden by six lengths and will no doubt be chasing Black Type in the New Year.

Certainlycan was a $250,000 Magic Millions Weanling purchase from Woodside Park for Yevrah Investments, but was passed in shy of her $250,000 reserve at the Gold Coast as a yearling before returning to the same sale ring in the Baystone Farm draft as a two year-old where she was bought by Raheen Stud.

Certainlycan was bought as a 2YO filly in training for $350,000 from Baystone Farm.

She comes with a big pedigree being from Group III placed Lucky Can Be, a half-sister to Group I winners Gimmethegreenlight and Ofcourseican, the dam of Group III winning $1.7million earner Persan and quality Group II placed mare Cinderella Days.

Lucky Can Be was bought by Kia Ora Stud in 2022 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $400,000, but sadly died in 2022 and her final foal, a colt by Pierro will be offered at Magic Millions by Kia Ora as Lot 892 and he is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Persan.

Lot 892 is the Pierro half-brother to Certainlycan.

It’s a prolific Black Type family held by a number of leading farms including Yulong and there are five entries at Magic Millions, click here to see them.
