Nervous 99 - Metro Double for Quality Zoustar Fillies

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 17

Champion sire Zoustar is stuck on nervous 99 in his quest to be the first sire to hit 100 winners for the season and helping his tally on Saturday were progressive fillies Zouphoria and Ginger’n’ Pink, who scored at Randwick and Caulfield and they both have siblings headed for Magic Millions 2024.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian bott trained Zouphoria bolted in with a maiden race at the Kensington track on December 1 and was pitched straight up into a Saturday Benchmark 78 event over 1400m and emerged triumphant.

Zouphoria powered for Jett Stanley late to score a head win in a blanket finish and has two wins from five starts with prizemoney just shy of $180,000.

A $750,000 Magic Millions purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the Widden Stud draft, Zouphoria is the second winner from two foals to race from stakes-winning Shamardal (USA) mare Vezalay.

Zouphoria brings a timely pedigree update for her yearling half-sister by I Am Invincible that will head to Magic Millions in January for Widden Stud as Lot 335.

The filly is bred on the exact same cross as champion sprinter Imperatriz, who is also by I Am Invincible from a daughter of Shamardal!

Zoustar brought up a two state double with the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained Ginger ‘n’ Pink backed up from her maiden win at Sandown earlier this month to win a Benchmark 70 event over 1200m by a length and a half.

With two wins and two placings from six starts and prizemoney topping $128,000, Ginger ‘n’ Pink was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Moody Racing from the Kitchwin Hills draft and runs for an ownership group that includes her breeder Neil Werrett.

She is the second winner from winning Husson (Arg) mare Dancers, who was also bred and raced by Werrett and comes from a family he has nurtured with great success tracing back to stakes-placed Wiener, the half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) to Snitzel and Hinchinbrook. Current stars from this family are Group I ATC Epsom Handicap winner Rediener and $9.4million earning Group I winning sprinter Private Eye.

The yearling filly by Ole Kirk from Dancers will be offered in the North consignment at Magic Millions as Lot 561.
